Project Brief

POCKET-Hg is a comprehensive solution designed to empower individuals and communities in the fight against mercury contamination. This proposal is the direct result of our Evidence-Based Approach fieldwork in Minamata, Japan, where we learned the critical need for synergy between the environment, society, science, and policy. The system consists of a handheld test kit to detect mercury in everyday foods and beverages, seamlessly integrated with a mobile application. This app allows users to record their findings, receive personalized insights, and report concerning levels to responsible institutions. More than just a personal tool, the POCKET-Hg app aggregates data to provide live, geo-located alerts about mercury contamination, fostering a community-wide approach to public health in accordance with the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal
